btw: …It’s odd that the pic of White Subway is next to the paras about William not being involved in cover design. When I was doing Aloes, I remember showing William the pictures I wanted to use and he agreed to all of them; his main concern was what the book was going to be called. When I suggested “An Anthology”, there was a little pause and pursing of the lips: “Never call anything an anthology.” He took the proofs, flicked to the first page and read the first line – “Call it ‘White Subway’.” I can still hear that lilting cracker rasp.
