Clarification regarding my invoking Forrest Gump in reference to Bill: I meant it only in the sense that Bill has been either the originator or in the middle of so much that was happening during his lifetime, particularly where eroticism, sexual freedom and freedom in general are concerned. I definitely did not mean it in any other way, including implying that Bill is a bit slow-thinking like Forrest (a laugher to anyone who knows him, and which his essay here would put the lie to anyway) or perhaps cluelessly amiable, or any of Forrest's other traits, endearing though they may be. The reason more people don't know this is Bill's refusal to pose and self-promote like so many of his contemporaries -- unless there is a good and just fight on, in which case you definitely want him on your side.

As you can see from this article, Bill Levy was innovator, agitator, anti-agitprop peripatetic presence for decades. The Forrest Gump of eroticism, in contrast to Girodias who attempted to create the mountain Bill was constantly moving mountains. We can only wish that he will make and take the time to write more on the people and times of his life, for in addition to his fascinating own writing, he has more history and anecdotes of the fascinating people of his time than anyone else.

Bill's powers of imagery and understanding of what's really going on remain unparalleled. Making the absurd seem plausible -- a tag line for this age. And why not to take the middle of the road stance. Priceless and so true.

More please, Bill.
