Greetings to you all. I've been a fan (detested word) of WSB for the last twenty five years and look forward to making a few friends (and perhaps enemies, they are so much more entertaining) on this forum.

In addition to WSB, my tastes run to J.G. Ballard, Michael Moorcock and Ian Banks.

Regards,

LJ

Welcome to the sleepiest forum in existence. Shame too because the site is excellent. But please offer a topic for discussion; perhaps SOMETHING besides (what CD you do or don't have) will make the posters rise from their stupor's and get the brain cells working again.

I thank you for the welcome Johnny. It does seem somwhat soporific for a Burroughs forum...........yes I do have CD's of WSB, no I'm not going to bang on about them........I was hoping to discuss his writing style. Disjointed, disturbing and visceral. Is there any parallel to James Joyce?

People say there is a parallel to Joyce but I've never been able to get into the Irish bard. I see more of a connection to Celine who like Burroughs, when I discovered him, I read everything I could find. I tried Joyce a couple of times but the prose seemed unnecessarily difficult, and I felt I had to plow along, and finally I gave it up. But with Burroughs and Celine I couldn't get enough - I felt they were right there in the room talking to me.

You mentioned Moorcock, and again I've read all this great stuff about him but I've yet to find a book that's really set me on fire. He's certainly a prolific writer so maybe there's something you could recommend. Ian Bank's The Wasp Factory is I think, one of the great books. Outstanding piece of work. I've tried other stuff by him - and one I thought was pretty good, but god nothing like The Wasp Factory.
