That's really exciting. I'll definitely buy it. What's with the title, though? It's another clunker, like Kindness of Women. Compare it to the Burroughs memoir we'll probably never end up seeing. Which would you rather buy (based on title alone): a book called Evil River? Or a book called Miracles of Life?

For me, I would rather buy "Evil River", for my old spinster Aunt Tillie, "The Miracles of Life".

it's an oddly religious title for an old confirmed atheist, sorta in the same vein as Kingdom Come. Maybe he's being sarcastic. Who knows. Sure it'll be very interesting though.

How about Evil Life Miracles River? That sound okay?

How about we shorten that to just Evil Miracles? That's a cool title.

How about it will be a miracle if we ever see "Evil River"?

How about we ask JG Ballard to write Burroughs' memoir?

in view of this article you are about to read, i think we will all agree that MIRACLES OF LIFE is the perfect title for this great writer's autobiography.

He may have had a remarkable life, I may look forward to his autobiography, I may feel sad about the odds of his overcoming prostate cancer -- but I still hate the title.

with all those "mays" it's good to see that there's something you're sure about. for me it's like a brand new title, that now speaks volumes.

Damn it. How sad. Guess his autobio is sort of his deathbed confession. Wonder what'll be in it that he hasn't discussed before. Can't wait to read it.

What sad news.

I just picked up Ballard conversations from Amazon.co.uk. It's from 2005 and from the Re/Search series...which of course have covered everyone from Burroughs to TG to well if it's out there then they will be covering it.

The news that he is suffering from advanced prostate cancer was the last thing I needed to find out today...when I found out Robert Anton Wilson had died my partner and I both agreed at least we still have Ballard. All the visionaries are dead or dying and there doesn't seem to be any one to take up the torch after them and that's possibly the saddest thing of all.
