This video voyeurism episode may have helped trigger the kid's suicide, but there must be a larger context. I'm reminded that suicide rates for gay and lesbian youths are higher than for straights. What would Burroughs have thought? I don't know. But I know what he would have felt -- sad. How else can you feel about any bright young person killing himself?

True enough. The whole voyeurism angle is a disgrace, and the young people who filmed this are worthless scum. There are websites where you can look at people caught naked and doing whatever without being aware of being filmed, and you wonder if they ever are made aware of their images online for everybody to see, and what the reaction is if they do. Some, I would imagine, end up like this poor young man. Disgraceful. Then again, in an era of image overload where everybody is entertainment fodder for everybody else, whether or not they want to be, what can you expect?

appaling. on a lesser note, i was sent an email containing "amusing" photos of various "down & outs" juxtaposing their at the very least drunken slumber with yoga positions...i know this doesnt seem like much, but mate's reaction when i told him to grow the fuck up was muted to say the least, i am sent shite like this all the time, just because as all my friends know i dig WSB, they presume thats il watch some really puerile "shocking" material...one guy even showed me saddam's hanging repeatedly (until i walked away, but then this is the guy who asked me in all honesty "what do homos feel?"!!!?????????)

Because we live in a society of overstimulated and jaded people, the two kids who filmed the guy and posted it online probably didn't even think that they were doing anything wrong.

They were brought up in a society where Paris Hilton and the Kardashians are role models for young people, where putting up a homemade sex tape or filming people getting beaten up is a mark of social status.

Today on Morning Joe, the assembled rich liberals were bemoaning the loss of privacy, especially as exemplified in the horrific case at Rutgers. But as they went on and on, Twitter! Facebook!!, one subject was never broached: the state. Could the lessened value placed on privacy have anything to do with the institution that claims the right—with the adamant approval of the Morning J’s—to read your email and your mail mail, listen in on your phone calls, keep track of your every move, spy on your hard drives, scan you naked, perform a black bag job on your house, read your mind with the machines it hopes to develop, keep your medical records, and know every dime you earn or spend? All in the name of that synonym for totalitarianism, national security, of course.

sadly yes...the worst thing about it was that THEIR faces were fuzzed out!!! utter S C U M. shown to me by the same chap who innocently brought round Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust assuming it would be "just another horror film" what fun, and even better that a mutual friend turned up (eating a hamburger!!) just before the turtle scene...

one of the 'stars' of bumfights with the help of an advocate has gotten clean/sober, a job
and off the streets. he has also written and published a memoir of those days with his advocate's help. buying a copy would be a good way to show your support.
