I would assume he means 'bell' and 'peals' here...but then again you never know, especially about the 'ball' bit...

burroughs humor. nothing quite like it. at readings he had the audience rolling in their seats. 'grandpa from hell' some one called him, and he liked that just fine.
humor is one of the great natural medicines, good for leading any kind of life; it reduces stress and
releases endorphins. i would say his dark humor was an enormous help to him in navigating his 83 years on the planet.

as ive said previously, the restaraunt section in NL always makes me laugh...amongst many others, county clerk etc...
