There's plenty wrong with Cronenberg's adaptation of Naked Lunch (most importantly, there are very few scenes in the film that are based on anything at all from Burroughs' novel), but this Weisel guy's shrill tone throughout the interview is just plain obnoxious:

Here's a much cooler, funny Cronenberg/WSB interview from the time period of the movie:

That Weisel interview is incredible. Cronenberg does a brilliant job explaining himself, his film, and Burroughs. The interviewer, meanwhile, does a terrible job understanding a single answer. He leaves you with the impression that he won't be satisfied with anything less than Cronenberg throwing himself at the interviewer's mercy and declaring, "Yes, yes, I'm a homophobe and I've desecrated Naked Lunch with my straight white masculinity."

Yeah, weasel Weisel is an uptight shitestabber cunt. Tedious as fuck. My favorite part is this:

"Whatever Burroughs thinks about his book or his sexuality is not really germane."

Hahahaha...ever read so much utter shite in your life? What the writer thinks about his work and sex life is not important, he and it have been embraced by a far wider gay audience.

Tedious stuff indeed.

The most disturbing aspect of the film, however, is the invention of a character who does not appear in the novel, Yves Cloquet (Julian Sands) is an effete, predatory homosexual who (re-creating every straight man's worst nightmare about gay sex) murders a young man while fucking him in the film's most overtly homophobic scene....but he can't depict two men fucking without transforming one of them into a giant centipede and turning it into a brutal, violent, antierotic act.

Ironic that Weisel's strongest objection is to one of the only scenes in the film that's truly in the spirit of Burroughs. You wonder if Weisel even read NL or anything else by WSB, because his books are filled with images of sexual acts followed by murder or transformation into various creatures.
