You're so stricken with grief that you killed off JG last year. Official date of death: 19 April 2009. RIP. |

Ah damn it. Not unexpected but still an absolute nightmare. RIP JGB. You will not be forgotten. |

Right this second there's actually a headline on the home page of Yahoo about Ballard's death. I'm amazed. Except for Empire and Crash, you can barely buy any of his books in this country. His last few books, if I'm not mistaken, couldn't even find an American publisher. Must be a slow news day.

Well, he was known by mainstream American audiences for Empire of The Sun. That's the hook. And if a worthless piece of shit like Jade 'Racist Braindead Big Brother Slapper' Goody's death can get major coverage, why shouldn't JGB's? Though I doubt his will merit anywhere near the same amount of coverage or hysteria. Or morally dubious filming. |

It's getting coverage in the appropriate places: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2009/4/19/18200/8023 People will pay attention. It's just the weekend, that's all. |

The obit on Ballardian has gathered a nice number of tributes in the comments: http://www.ballardian.com/rip-jg-ballard-1930-2009 And I see that Vale at Re/Search has posted a relatively recent picture and some details of Ballard's last months: http://www.researchpubs.com/Blog/?p=163 |

It's been a sad couple of years: Vonnegut in 2007, now Ballard. It's disgusting that this didn't make the major news headlines. On the other hand, when Anna Nicole Smith died, the news networks hardly talked about anything else. |

I wish they'd given Iain Sinclair more time on air than they gave Martin Amis |

Truth be told, biology outplays books 9.9 times out of 10. Unless the books are about tits. |
