A very intriguing article. Thank you for the link.
In the December 15th Issue of
The New Yorker magazine, there is a fascinating published letter, from a reader.
The reader writes in response to a piece by Hendrik Hertzberg, (in
Talk Of The Town), in the December 1st Issue. Hertzberg's article was about
the vote on Proposition 8, in California.
The letter writer cites principles established decades ago, by Justice Robert Jackson.
In 1943, the Justice wrote:
Quote:
"The very purpose of a Bill Of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy...and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the Courts."
Justice Jackson further wrote:
Quote:
"Fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no election." (my emphasis)
I think that when all this fundamentalist 'legal' bleep hits the whirling blades of the US Supreme Court, there are gonna be a large number of fundamentalist faces, completely covered in their own bleep.
When, oh when, are we gonna...??? (a paraphrased quote, below;)
Quote:
"...segregate these people into nut houses, or encourage them to become snake handlers. Get in a shipment of cobras, pythons, black mambas, rattlesnakes, water moccasins/cottonmouths, and such; now all you boys, dig in deep, and you just test your faith...."
