I don't much rate Irvine Welsh these days, finding him to have descended into very-occasionally-interesting hackwork quite some time ago, but I will read this, and know that some here will be interested in it too (though the Trainspotting 'sequel' Porno was bloody awful):

Irvine Welsh was in Manchester in April, signing copies of his new book. I was there. The whole thing felt pointless - the event took place in the big Waterstones on the posh side of town, and Mr. Welsh himself appeared to be extremely bored.

The book is bad. His early stuff was concise, powerful in places, funny in others. That Skagboys thingie is all over the place, unconvincing and rather boring. I am afraid the guy lost it.

Good thing is, I won't feel bad flogging that piece of crap on eBay.
