"Calling partisans of all nations"

I've been working on an endless, experimental epic underground feature based on "Nova Express" and the cut-up trilogy on and on off for the past decade.

Mr. Oliver Harris has nudged me to screen excerpts at the upcoming NL@50 events. In early July, two 30 minute chunks in Paris along with a 10 minute outro.

The whole thing is pushing two and half hours these days and continues permutating... a huge mass of found footage, 8mm/Super-8/16mm, DV, stopmotion fungal debris and translucent celluloid goo. Mostly narrated by WSB but here and there insect robot speakers, actors, and robot actors from the Firesign Theatre... Here are some assorted images from this peculiar film...

As you can expect, it is a maddening, endless labor.

If you have any "innaresting" recordings or rarities you think would be essential to a comprehensive Nova Conspiracy, please get in touch. Website/trailer in progress.

Thanks, hope it burrows into your brain and lays a few horrible eggs. In a good way, of course.

Burroughs already burrowed (burroughed) into my brain and laid a few eggs...why else would I be here?

I just wanted to mention that I have seen a rough cut. This film not only lives up to your expectations, it blows them out of the water. It's an amazing work.

Andre, the creator of the Nova Express film, gave me a copy. He's working furiously to finish up some things before its debut in Paris. I don't know what Andre's exact plans are for distributing the film, but I expect copies will be available before long. Perhaps we could work out something special for forum members here. (Andre? What do you think?)

Distributing? I never thought I'd finish the damn thing! Seriously tho, it'll probably putter around festivals and oddball venues for the next year, its hardly something that will fill a multiplex or score some major distribution deal! DVDs I'm sure will be worked out, and I'm leaning towards making it available in high quality for free online as well. I'm sure all pertinent gibberish will appear here concerning it... and will try to have a trailer and some excerpts on youtube this summer.

Problem is, how the fuck do I sum it up in a trailer? Buncha crazy images ending with "Captain Clark welcomes you aboard" or something? Talk about a difficult to sum up project!

STEREOTYPICAL CIGARCHOMPING PRODUCER: "Word falling? What does that mean in Peoria!? JACK SHIT!"

Anyway, back to editing. I'm adding a new section with "The Death Dwarf in the Street" and punching up "Last Words" for the "shattering conclusion" the website promises.

Another reason I never expected to finish this thing is I'm sure there are more WSB readings of Nova Express-era material lurking about that I haven't heard, that would be ideal for splicing and dicing. A shame the Ohio State collection is closed till August, has anybody on here had a chance to listen to their holdings?

I really need to put out more feelers for odd recordings, I'm sure there a bunch of rarities in dusty shoeboxes here and there. Perhaps the Paris thing will shake the tree a bit.

You got to think marketing, friend: put out your film now, give it a few months while you search for more material and then put out the extended cut DVD with all the new bits. Everyone who bought it first buys it twice and then some big moviehouse gives you money to do the Cities Trilogy based on your obvious business savvy.
