Just saw this trailer on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUFQUxIJN5k It's a 12 min movie based on a letter written by WIlliam Burroughs, has anyone any info on this short film? I think the letter is the first one from the Yage Letters, the Billy Bradshinkel routine. |

EXCELLENT NEWS and a beautiful trailer. Considering the eclectic material, you can tell that there were some real Burroughs fans involved. Looking at the scenes, I'd love to see this cast and crew do Junky and/or Queer. |

IMDB page for the film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1377311/ WSB, Yage Redux: Quote: And I got a silo full of queer corn where that came from. Another routine: A man who manufactures memories to order. Any kind you want and he guarantees you'll believe they happened just that way -- (As a matter of fact I have just about sold myself Billy Bradshinkel). A line from the Japanese Sandman provides themesong of story, 'Just an old second hand man trading new dreams for old.' Ah what the hell! Give it to Truman Capote. WSB, Ticket That Exploded: Quote: Enter George Raft cum Paris in the Spring all his hands in his pockets -- Heavy with the Japanese Sandman -- Looking for someone who was trading new dreams for old -- THE JAPANESE SANDMAN (Words by Raymond B. Egan / Music by Richard A. Whitin, 1920) Won't you stretch imagination for the moment and come with me Let us hasten to a nation lying over the western sea Hide behind the cherry blossoms here's a sight that will please your eyes There's a baby with a lady of Japan singing lullabies Night winds breath her sighs here's the Japanese Just as silent as we came we'll leave the land of the painted fan Wander lightly or you'll wake the little people of old Japan May repose and pleasant dreaming be their share while the hours are small Like an echo of the song I hear the Japanese Sandman call new days near for all here's the Japanese Sandman sneaking on with the dew just an old second hand man He'll buy your old day from you he will take every sorrow of the day that is through and he'll give you tomorrow just to start a life anew then you'll be a bit older in the dawn when you wake and you'll be a bit bolder with the new day you make here's the Japanese Sandman trade him silver for gold just an old second hand man trading new days for old. |

Thanks for the information. I feel this is an adaptation from the Billy Bradshinkel routine because of one image form the trailer. In Yage Letters Redux, Burroughs wrote: "When the car stopped in the garage I put my head down on the wheel sobbing and rubbing my cheek against the steel spokes." There is such a image in the trailer, except that the car is not in the garage I think. Anyway, would be great to see this short film. |

Japanese Sandman also sounds like slang for opium. |

Don't forget the great "Rang Tang Ding Dong (I Am a Japanese Sandman)" by The Cellos from 1956/1957, as seen in the drug scene from the very under-rated Scorsese flick BRINGING OUT THE DEAD. Now, all you girls Listen to me If you want to be My little girly Just ???? We'll go down in The Hall of Fame I am the Japanese sandman From across the sea Hey, all you babies Pay attention to me He goes, rang tang ding dong Rackee sackee Rang tang ding dong Rackee sackee..... This is a great wee short film and highly recommended. Reality Studio's quote is the correct one for the letter/film, using the last line as a way to tie the themes of the film together. Look out for this if you haven't seen it. |
