interesting piece; JD beat me to it though re: the clip(s) in 'Joy Division'

anyone know where the film clips of Burroughs in that doc came from? (e.g "play all your reports back"..) i'm guessing A.Balch, although my knowledge of Burroughs on film is slender...

Interesting piece. But isn't the phrase "where young Ian Curtis hung out" somewhat, eh, unfortunate?

I really enjoyed the piece on Joy Division and Burroughs. One note in regard to Curtis's bookcase as recreated in Corbijn's wonderful film - this is shown in a sequence which is clearly captioned as 1973, Macclesfield, but Burroughs' Ah Pook Is Here was not published until 1979. In fact, the film pays great attention to period detail and gets so much exactly right that this error is hardly damaging, but of course Burroughsians may well wonder if the shamanic Curtis had time travelled into the future and scored a copy . . . Very Best Wishes, Ian MacFadyen

Hi, I'm currently at work at the moment, so can't really read the whole of this piece, but I think it might be worth mentioning that there was an explanation for Burroughs telling Curtis to get lost. In the most recent Joy Division film (directed by Grant Gee) the ex-members of JD recount the story on the night in question.

Apparently someone suggested to Curtis that since he already owned so many copies of Burroughs' work, he should try and blag a free copy of his latest offering. The result being a stern 'fuck off, kid' from Burroughs.

If you've not had a chance to check the documentary out (in addition to the also excellent Control) it's definitely worth it. There are a few bits of archive footage of Burroughs and the cut-up films, plus several short interviews with Genesis P.Orridge and some other Industrial luminaries plus a whole bunch of previously unseen footage from Joy Division live shows.
