On the morning of September 22 (and a fine crisp morning it was too) called at Hermitage bookshop.
A pity it was closed. Glimpsed Evergreen through the darkened window. Will call next year.

Jon Beachum is the real deal - his store/gallery is an oasis and a beacon for anyone interested in poetry, small press publishing, and the intersection of poetry and graphics - well organized, no junk, imaginative exhibits and fair prices - worthy successor to the Phoenix and Gotham book shops -

Nichols closed up Rue Cottage Books for health reasons; more than that I do not know. She had a fine shop and will be missed -

Enjoyed reading this, esp the stuff on Hermitage Books, because it's just over an hour away (up the Taconic to Columbia Country, or rather, down the Taconic to 84 and over); my first broadside was published by Andy Hoyem. Dave Hasselwood was a friend, and later I became a printer myself. At the time I was writing Six Poets of the San Francisco Renaissaince. Do they have a phone number? I would like to call and visit sometime, maybe find some early mags where I published my first poems, and take them some books to show.

As a resident of Beacon, I'll say that Hermitage has been a wonderful addition to our city and community. It's not easy for any independent bookstore or gallery anywhere, and it's not easy for any store in Beacon, so Kudos and thank you to Jon and Christian for being here and raising the bar.

Peter Howard of Serendipity Books, Berkeley, now has all the remaining Zephyrus Image stock for sale. Very few copies of very few titles but most items were never for sale in the first place. It is on consignment from Holbrook Teter's widow.
